Having previously traveled to Europe, I thought I had a handle on what this summer adventure had in store. My previous trip was a 10-day high school trip where everything was very fast-paced since we were traveling to 4 different countries in that time span. As I prepared for this journey, my mind painted a vivid picture. I anticipated endless walks, a never ending amount of pizza, and immersing myself in touristy activities. Inevitably, I knew there would be moments where I would have to get out of my comfort zone because I was going to be away from home for a month with people I?d only met a handful of times.?Little did I know that this trip would redefine my perception. This place, these people?they transformed my European summer into a home away from home. Each day opened with limitless possibilities, allowing us to take charge in our summer. From exploring the historic charm of the old town, embracing the many beaches, or embarking on exhilarating excursions?the choice was ours to make. In retrospect, this escapade was an eye-opener. It shattered my preconceived notions, revealing that travel is more than just ticking off checkboxes. It’s about connecting with the essence of a place, immersing oneself in the tapestry of culture, and forming bonds that resonate deep within.
