Arriving in Strasbourg France I was a little tired from the long plane ride but was immediately in awe of this quaint beautiful city. It is situated perfectly on the eastern boarder of France and Germany. My group and I walked around and got ourselves acclimated to this new ?home? of ours. I immediately noticed some major cultural differences between Strasbourg and cities back home in The United States of America. First off was the design of the town, many tall, picturesque structures that hug super narrow cobblestone streets. Just so charming it is hard to explain (see pictures!). Upon arriving, I also couldn?t help but notice the difference not only in the geography of the town but also the local flavors/restaurants this town had to offer. So many European fine and simple cuisines that are not only authentic to the region but amazing to taste! My roommate and I found ourselves with a hard choice to make on day one?. which restaurant would we choose?! We ultimately decided upon a small French Bakery and ate some authentic French Onion Soup and a delicious brie cheese sandwich. Needless to say, we enjoyed a delicious lunch on our first day.
After a few days of getting acclimated to our new town, we started attending our classes. I am taking two international business classes that I can tell are going to be so interesting. I hope to gain a more well-rounded, worldly view of economics/business while I am over here. We have several field trips planned to local businesses, like Mercedes-Benz, that I believe will give me so much perspective into international business operations. One of the things I was most excited for upon planning this time abroad was the idea of exploring different European cities on the weekends. I hope to expand my knowledge on the different cultures while over here so we have several trips planned for our weekends off. In summary, I would say the first week here has been AMAZING!! I cannot wait to learn more about this interesting European nation.
