As I boarded the plane to Singapore, I had no idea what to expect. No one in my family had ever been to Singapore, let alone Asia. My only knowledge of the city-state was that it was humid, had great food, and had extremely impressive architecture, like the Marina Bay Sands. All I hoped to gain was a greater understanding of the world, as I knew that other countries around the world lived very differently than how we do in the United States. Upon my arrival in Singapore, I was first met by the massive waterfall inside the Changi Airport and the accompanying rainforest environment. Like everyone else, my first impression was just being awestruck by the insane view in an airport, as my standard for a high-quality airport was DFW. Once we got our luggage we got our first taste of Singaporean food, and while it was good, the best part was that the tip was included in the final bill, meaning no 20% increase to your bill. After we ate, we quickly headed to the bus and began to drive to our hotel. During the trip across the island, I saw countless towering apartment buildings and lush vegetation, differing greatly from the drive to George Bush International Airport being full of massive highways and little to no vegetation. Once we finally get to the hotel, I fall asleep in an attempt to get rid of my jetlag, and to my surprise, after sleeping for 12 hours, I woke up without feeling any effects. This morning, we had free time to explore the city at our leisure, so I start walking down the street and wandering around the city. During my journey, I found multiple malls and food courts extremely close together and a car elevator in a parking garage. After my journey, I headed back to the hotel to rejoin the group. I can?t wait to update this throughout the trip and track all of my discoveries.
