My first impressions of Singapore were exactly what I expected based on research I have done, people I have talked to, and pictures I have seen of this country. However, despite it being what I had expected it was still more breathtaking and astonishing being there in person. It is often difficult to truly imagine being in a place through only the pictures you see online or stories passed to you by friends/ family. For me being there in person and being able to look at all the marvelous sights first hand was quite an experience. When we first got off the plane we were given some time to explore the airport. I was able to take some time to look around the gardens at the airport. The waterfall and garden area in the Changchi airport is a popular attraction, and one of which I have seen numerous times before online and through pictures of friends/family. Being there in person was a whole new experience and felt much more exhilarating than seeing it in pictures. After the airport we took a bus through the city. During this time we got to briefly see the streets of Singapore along with all the nature that the city has to offer. In the mid 1900s the prime minister of Singapore pushed to make the city a clean and environmentally friendly city. This later translated into the city being nicknamed by some as ?the Garden City?, and after driving through the city I could very easily see why it was named this. The city was filled with lush greenery and plants and it had a very nice tropical atmosphere to it. After the bus ride we got to attend a boat ride around the river in which we saw many impressionable sights such as the Merlion Statue, the Marina Bay Sands and the Old Hill Street Police Station. This boat ride truly peaked my interest and made me quite excited for the coming weeks in this country. During this trip I hope to be able to experience more interesting sights, learn more about the people and culture of Singapore, and learn about the business structures of Asia.
