It is hard to believe that this experience is already over. I feel like I got here just yesterday. I’ve been going nonstop, seeing new things, exploring new places, and speaking new languages. No other experience I think could compare to this one. After we initially got settled, we took a flight to Mallorca island for the weekend. I think this was my favorite excursion of the whole trip. We rented a catamaran and got to sail around and snorkel the coast of Mallorca. It had the most amazing natural beauty and sights. But beyond just the physical beauty of Spain, there were a lot of differences in the way of life here. For starters, there is little to no A/C in any building. I had to get used to that very quickly as that’s quite the jump from the A/C I?m used to in College Station. Another little thing like that is the tipping culture. At most any place it’s not expected that you leave a tip. My first experience with this was at a small mom & pop bakery. I purchased a croissant and a coffee and tried to leave a ?1 tip, but to my surprise, they gave it back to me and said they didn’t want it. Another big part of life here that I really enjoyed was just how active everyone is. People don’t like to just sit in their houses and lounge around all day. They go out and walk around, go to the park, and see friends. That’s definitely one thing I wish was more normalized in America, I think too many people just sit inside in the cold A/C and don’t actually go and see nature. There are, however, some drawbacks to being in Spain. I think what I miss most is Fried Chicken and Dr. Pepper. Don?t get me wrong the food is great, but there?s something about that Chick-fil-a sandwich that nothing can compare to. This had been one of the most amazing months of my life and I can?t wait to get home and tell everyone all about it!
