South Africa was a truly phenomenal experience and journey. I will never forget my 28-hour flight home, and reflecting back now, I am so blessed to have signed up for this program as I had the best guides from EDU Africa to teach me all the ins and outs that come with living and experiencing everything from lifestyle to business ventures that Cape Town had to offer! My time in South Africa was everything and more of what I could’ve imagined it to be. From the cultural excursions to company visits like Pepsi and learning how to conduct business, I was able to truly maximize my time abroad. Being able to partake in every opportunity allowed me to truly understand my role as a global change agent and how impactful my interactions and curiosity can play out to be. Whether in business meetings through asking questions, or one on one with my fellow mays students, curiosity opened the door to loads of additional knowledge and insight. Knowledge and insight were the two things I really had the opportunity to see in action during my 2 1/2 weeks in South Africa, which brought about a whole new perspective and appreciation. Each day was jam-packed with activities and transformative experiences, which meant that no day was the same as the one before it?making each moment that much more meaningful. One thing that initially shocked me when comparing South Africa to the US or even Texas was just how westernized the city was and how it offered some of the same things we see here in the states but with its own unique twist. Now that I’m back in the US, I can confidently say that, from the food and the scenic views, South Africa was a breath of fresh air that I wish everyone could experience!
