The things I experienced and learned on my study abroad in France was more than I ever could have possibly imagined. Through first hand experiences with the people I met and classes with EM Strasbourg, I gained a new understanding on how to work with and treat individuals from different cultures than mine. Every culture has certain stereotypes associated with them, but it?s important we experience them ourselves and make our own opinions. A common stereotype I heard about French people was that they were mean to tourists, but encountered some of the most kind and genuine people I?ve ever met. At any restaurant that I went to, the staff cared more about the customer?s experience and enjoyment rather than pushing tables to make money. A positive idea of their city and culture is what mattered to them.
Furthermore, my study abroad trip in France changed my appreciation for culture and and history. While I knew Europe was famous for many different historical sites throughout history, I didn?t really appreciate them. However, standing in the colosseum, touring the Vatican, seeing the Eiffel Tower, and looking at the Mona Lisa were just a few of the many experiences that gave me and better understanding and appreciation for history and the effects that it has on culture. It was truly amazing to experience those things in person and I cannot wait to go back to Europe see and experience the many parts that I have not seen!
