I learned a lot being abroad in Singapore for almost two weeks. My initial impressions were correct, and the thing that blew me away the most was the architecture and the food. I tried so many things on this trip that I had never had before. The most unusual thing I was able to eat was frog leg porridge. I am very thankful for our tour guide, Don, who showed me the authentic culture of Singapore. Being able to see and experience things off the beaten path opened my eyes to new experiences. One of the more exciting things I also got to experience was a cook-your-own meat restaurant. This place was something I got a lot of influence from out of anime and other Asian shows that I have enjoyed. Everyone I engaged with was very kind and always looking to help us find a way around. The friendliness shocked me, as not everyone in the United States is always that willing to help foreigners. This experience was refreshing, and I always thanked them sincerely for their help. Conducting business in Singapore is much like the United States in a lot of ways. I enjoyed it when we got to learn about hedge funds and different investment information. This information relates to my major, and I learned a lot about the field I want to pursue.
Another thing that intrigued me was the car situation in Singapore. The government limits how many people can be on the road by drastically increasing the price of cars. Everyone has to get a certificate for their vehicle that can cost up to 10 times the amount of the car. When I was in Singapore, there was never any traffic. This trip has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, and I will never forget it. I will continue to spread the fantastic stories and experiences I had on this trip to all that ask.
