Howdy everyone! My name is Mackenzie Curnutt, I am a Management major and will be a senior in the fall. This summer I decided I didn?t want to stay in Texas, in fact I didn?t even want to stay in the States so I applied with the Department of State to work at a U.S. Embassy abroad. I got the internship and so now for ten weeks I am interning at the U.S. Embassy in London, England! I have actually already completed a whole month of my internship and can?t believe time has flown by this fast but when in one of the greatest cities ever can you expect anything less?! The U.S. Embassy is made up of many different sections and I?m interning in General Services Section and this has given me the opportunity to see how the Embassy is supported and how every person makes such a large contribution to keep everything running smoothly. One of the highlights of my time here so far has been assisting in the First Lady Michelle Obama?s visit to London and on top of that getting to meet her! Weekends have flown by also because I have not wasted a second of free time, my adventures took me to Oxford, Bath, Reykjavik, Iceland, Amsterdam, and this weekend I forfeited traveling for a Taylor Swift concert in London?s Hyde Park. I have also learned a little bit about the UK during my time here and have to say that even though we share a language there are still many cultural differences that I did not expect. A small example is when it is your birthday you bring goodies and cake for the office instead of people bringing stuff in for you! However, I love sharing my A&M culture with the Americans and the Brits around me and could not have asked for a better school to talk about! I hope to absorb as much as possible in the next six weeks and to enjoy every last minute of my internship.
Cheers,
Mackenzie
