About a one minute walk from my host house is one of the top five places in Sevilla to eat churros. Let me tell you something. If you’ve never had churros with chocolate sauce, you’re missing out. It takes the dessert to a whole new level. About a three minute walk in the opposite direction you’ll run into an “helader?a” which means ice cream shop. These are dotted all throughout the city like the sprinkles you can add on top of your cone. But this isn’t just any ice cream shop. There’s a couple who owns it and the husband makes all the artisan ice cream. It is absolutely delicious and so aesthetically pleasing. For those who are looking for something refreshing on a hot summer day in Spain, stop in and you won’t be disappointed. I recommend the watermelon and lemon flavors. Maybe you’re missing some TexMex? Fear not. Tijuana TexMex has you covered from nachos to tacos to burritos. It’s about a seven minute walk away. If there’s one thing I’ve learned so far in Spain, it’s that you really can walk just about anywhere you please. Taxis aren’t bad to split with friends if you’re going a little farther than normal. However, walking everywhere else isn’t so bad. Besides… it helps to keep off all the delicious food here. (That being said, there is still a long list of American food I miss like Cane’s, Whataburger, my mom’s enchiladas, and my dad’s burgers). Food aside, Spain is interesting, and I really like it. It has its ups and downs like any other place. I can definitely list some.
Cons:
Hardly any AC (and it is HOT)
Water is not free
Not a huge fan of the food and work schedule (Sample: eat at 8am, 3pm, and 10pm and work from 9am to 2pm, leave, then work 4pm-7pm)
Pros:
Good food
Friendly people
Shopping
A more relaxed way of life
If there’s one thing I can appreciate here, the people in Spain understand the importance of being able to take in life slowly and to let every detail take its time to sink in so as to truly appreciate the beauty in everyday moments. I cannot believe it’s already been one month here in Spain for my internship abroad. I have learned so much from both my internship and the way of life here. I will be sad to go, but I am excited to bring back a better me.
