I started walking towards the bus stop by my host family’s house thinking on how it’d probably be the last time I would ever see the inside of that apartment flat that I called home for the past six weeks and possibly my host family. Then it dawned on me. Even after all my checking and double-checking from the previous day and this morning, I had left one thing behind… the cardigan I wear all the time. I must’ve set it down at some point during the morning somewhere. I knew it was early, but I really didn’t want to leave it behind. I told myself I would ring up the flat, and if my host mom didn’t answer, it was fine. It was just a cardigan. I pressed the buzzer once. The longest minute went by. I told myself I’d try one more time. As I reached up, I heard my host mom. “?Hola?” I quickly blurted out in Spanish that I had forgotten something. She told me not to worry and buzzed me up. As soon as I stepped off the elevator, she was there waiting for me. I started apologizing profusely, but she waved it off and gave me hug telling me it was fine. I hurriedly checked the bathroom. Not there. Then my room. Nope. I started panicking. Where could it be? Then it hit me. The kitchen. I grabbed my cardigan and then thanked my host mom for everything giving her one last hug. Then I headed to the bus stop. My friends and I are now at the airport three hours early for our flight because the buses weren’t as unpredictable as they normally tend to be in Sevilla.
I know it’s clich? to say, but the past six weeks of my internship abroad flew by. I can’t believe I’ll be on my way home in a couple hours. While I am ready to go home and see my family, I’m definitely going to miss this place. It’s a whole different world over here across the pond. I enjoyed my time immensely getting to know the city of Sevilla as I carried out my internship. It’s truly a charming city filled with tapas, siestas, art, parks, dance, music, wonderful sites, and kind people. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to travel to C?diz, Portugal, France, and Morocco on the weekends. This summer has been absolutely amazing, and my expectations were blown away. I learned so much not only from my internship, but from getting to travel and getting to know people and their way of life. I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity. It was an amazing experience, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
