Now that I’ve been back in the United States for about a month, I’ve had time to reflect on my past semester and I am so thankful. The past four months in Strasbourg were some of the best months of my life!
Before studying abroad, I assumed traveling around Europe would be super cheap. It’s definitely cheaper than America, but traveling out of Strasbourg is not always easy. Strasbourg’s airport is small and offers limited flights, so I only flew out of Basel, Switzerland, a larger airport about two hours away. One of my longest travel days involved a 1 am bus to the airport to catch a 6 am flight to Morocco. It was totally worth it but if traveling is a high priority, consider studying in a city with a larger, more accessible airport. It’s still possible to travel while living in Strasbourg though, by the end of my semester I traveled to 11 countries!
One thing I didn’t expect to love as much as I did was how easy and sustainable the transportation options were. I’ve only ever lived in Texas suburbs where driving a car is a necessity. In Strasbourg, I got everywhere via tram, bus, or walking. I loved being a passive passenger during my commutes instead of driving! And all the walking was so refreshing.
My semester in Strasbourg is unforgettable and I can’t wait to visit again one day!
