Reflecting on my time abroad in Copenhagen, I am thankful for the change in routine, pace of life, and number of trash bins. The weather shifted in mid-November, allowing me to experience this “dreaded” weather Danes had warned me about. More time inside created more opportunities to connect with peers in my kitchen and further understand the meaning of Hygge. Hygge is a Danish term that is most like cozy. Hygge was card games and candle lights. It was hot chocolate on a cold night. All these experiences created tangible light in the stress of finals and rainy weather.
To truly enjoy Europe at Christmas, I emphasized attending Christmas Markets! The atmosphere was magical, and at times there was snow! I enjoyed eating reindeer and trying new desserts. Everyone around me was in good spirits, united by holiday cheer. Town after town would have large Christmas trees in their Town Square, and some markets were even accompanied by an ice rink! Although finals brought stress and challenges, the Christmas Markets down the road always lifted my spirit.
Experiencing a true Autumn and Winter was a highlight itself. The weather brought many outdoor adventures and pleasant walks. I went to new heights, like Mount Titlis in Switzerland, and had the privilege to receive my Aggie Ring at the iconic Nyhavn in Copenhagen! I am happy to have brought a piece of A&M with me and look forward to whatever adventures lie ahead.
