Being in Costa Rica for the first time has been such a cool experience. Right away, I noticed how green and beautiful everything is here. It’s a mix of modern and traditional, with tall buildings right next to colorful markets and old-school homes. The city feels alive, with people everywhere, music playing, and street vendors selling fresh fruit and snacks. It’s clear that Costa Rica, while a relatively small country, has a unique identity and a thriving culture that sets it apart from anywhere I’ve been.
The global business program is already making me think differently about how things work outside the U.S. Costa Rica’s focus on sustainability is impressive. For example, they’re huge on renewable energy and protecting the environment, which isn’t something you see as much in American businesses. It’s making me wonder how those values could fit into more profit-driven systems like the ones we see back home.
Culturally, I’ve noticed a lot of differences too. The whole “pura vida” vibe is real! People here seem more relaxed and happy, even when life isn’t perfect. It’s a big shift from the hustle culture in the U.S., where it feels like everyone’s always busy or stressed about the next thing on their to-do list. Here, life feels slower yet more fulfilling, as people prioritize relationships, leisure, and community well-being. Another difference is how family-oriented the culture is; it’s common to see multiple generations living together, a contrast to the independence-focused nature of American life. People here seem to value spending time with family and enjoying life more, which is something I really admire about the culture.
I’m hoping this experience teaches me how to step out of my comfort zone and see the world differently. I want to learn how other cultures approach life and business and bring those ideas back with me. I can’t wait to explore more of Costa Rica!
