This first week in Melbourne, I’ve had an incredible time. I’ve enjoyed every planned and unplanned activity. The great ocean road tour had some unbelievable sights, especially the twelve apostles. The cricket game some guys went to in the spur of the moment was a blast and a grey way to immerse myself in the Australian culture.
I hope to gain a more in depth and first hand knowledge and experience on business. I hope that our speakers are able to give me applicable and relevant advice ghat I can use to help further my professional career and grow as a student and marketer. I hope that they will also shine light into how business is conducted and costumes practiced in Australia. I have an idea of USA business culture, but I honestly don’t have much of an idea about Australia. I also hope to gain a broader perspective on culture in other countries. I think that Australia has lots of similarities and differences than America and I really hope that I get to see these first hand. A difference I’ve already noticed is how everything is more causal. The business attire is all been business casual compared to what would normally be business professional. Along with attire, the language and jargon is also more relaxed and casual. Another difference I’ve seen is how more family friendly Melbourne has been than the US. Whether it was the atmosphere at the cricket game or the kids clothing at the front of the shops or maybe it was the kids eat free discounts at many restaurants, there has been lots of benefits for families. I think that this family friendly culture makes for a more fun and inviting environment overall. I think that this inviting nature blends with all aspects of the culture, especially customer service and architecture.
