Studying Abroad in Barcelona Spain has given me invaluable insight into the global business practices that could not have been possible from a classroom alone. The vibrant culture, diverse population, and dynamic Business environment of this city have provided unique perspectives that will be employed in my future career.
One of my favorite experiences was visiting local Businesses. For instance, I visited the Damm brewery, one of the largest breweries in Spain, learning about their production, strategies, and how they adapted to cater to certain audiences. The thing that stuck out to me most is how when Damm brewery first opened in Barcelona they needed a refreshing Mediterranean beer. Through research and testing they added rice into their beer, which made it lighter and more refreshing. This is a perfect example of adapting to local tastes and preferences, by understanding the needs and wants of the local businesses. Damm beers have become the most prominent beer in Barcelona and one of the largest in Spain. We have learned about the importance of understanding your foreign audience and seeing it put into practice and it working was an incredible experience and one I will employ in the future.
Therefore I can conclude that the most important thing I have learned in global business is the importance of understanding the audience’s taste, cultures, habits, and preferences in a market you want to penetrate. Damm beers did this and has proven its importance, coming from Germany and understanding the taste of the local people in Barcelona, it has become the main brewery in Barcelona.
