My first impression of Austria is that it is a country very proud of who it is. This is a place with an incredible sense of identity. There was a national soccer match played yesterday, and this brought out a large showing of fans. It was fun to see such support. As for Vienna, it is a deeply historical city with a rich history. From the House of Habsburg to their Spanish Riding School, this city has a deeply traditional, old-school style of being. However, there is still life in the city, with a great young culture that you have to experience to understand.
The business school is very different compared to Wehner. It is a completely modern campus. The main building and library look like a spaceship, and everything is tilted and rounded, which is a stark contrast to Wehner’s very rigid look. The entire school is less than one square mile. There are stores, restaurants, and even dorms, all just for the business school.
The main difference I see in the culture between Austria and America is that we are more social in a casual setting. Austrians tend to be more reserved in a social setting until they become comfortable with you. However, once you are their friend, they are deeply caring and helpful people.
