While there is no doubt that studying abroad requires some patience and adaptability, I am truly so thankful that I took this opportunity to learn more about the Italian culture and, in return, myself. The beauty of Italy is only magnified when you learn about the rich culture of the country. Some of my favorite memories of my study abroad program were spent climbing the Duomo Di Firenze, touring Vatican City, and exploring other parts of the country because I was able to develop an even deeper appreciation for the history and architecture Italy has to offer. However, what truly made my experience as impactful as it was was the people I met along the way. Before coming to Florence, I did not know anyone else in the program and was somewhat nervous about the people I would meet. However, I truly could not have chosen better people to take on this adventure with. From the initial “hello” with my three roommates to the last post-dinner gelato outing with my newfound best friends, I am forever grateful to have met the people who made my time in Italy so memorable and allowed me to grow into who I am today. I knew this opportunity would be great for my global business skills, but what I was not expecting was the growth I had as a person. I am now more confident in myself than ever before because I took the time to notice how I went about handling international differences such as the language barrier, body language distinctions, and public transportation. Through these experiences, I have learned that patience is key, being proactive is more beneficial than being reactive, gelato is amazing, and I should have studied the Italian language a lot more before my arrival. Overall, this experience impacted so many aspects of my life, and I would recommend that everyone should take the risk and study abroad!
