As my time in Barcelona comes to an end, I can’t help but reflect on everything this experience has given me. Studying abroad turned out to be more than I ever could have imagined. I met incredible people and formed genuine connections despite our different backgrounds. I was able to secure my summer internship through a connection I made while visiting Switzerland. I also took my first solo trip. Looking back, those moments became proof that some of the most meaningful growth happens when you say yes to opportunities that push you outside of your comfort zone.
Before coming here, I heard people say that studying abroad changes you. After six months of calling Barcelona home, I can say that it shapes you into a better and stronger version of yourself. It teaches you resilience, adaptability, and how to solve problems quickly. It makes you more aware of the world and your place in it.
The most important lessons I learned came from places that weren’t on any syllabus. Traveling and exploring taught me that successful professionals need more than technical knowledge. They need cultural awareness, empathy, adaptability, and the ability to connect with people whose experiences look different from their own. If you want to make a difference in the word, you first have to understand how it works, and sometimes that means putting down your phone and picking up the world instead.
Along the way, I was blessed to visit 15 countries and over 30 cities, each one teaching me something different about the world and about myself. Traveling on a student budget taught me how to master every form of public transport, plan ahead, make decisions, set priorities, and embrace uncertainty. Being abroad gives you the freedom to discover who you are. Every challenge and every adventure helped me grow into a stronger, more confident version of myself. I learned growth happens in the gap between comfort and the unknown.
Leaving is bittersweet. I am sad to say goodbye to the friends I’ve made and to this beautiful city that I’ve been lucky enough to call home for the past six months. But I’m also ready for what is next. I’m returning home more prepared for a career in business, but more importantly, more aware of the life I want to build within in.
I will be forever grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the memories, the lessons, the city, and the version of myself I found along the way.
