My first week in Barcelona has been exciting, overwhelming in the best way, and full of new experiences. The city immediately feels alive, from the energy in the streets to the sound of people chatting over coffee at outdoor cafés. The architecture is one of the first things that grabbed my attention. Seeing Antoni Gaudí’s work, like the Sagrada Família and the colorful mosaics in Park Güell, in person is incredible. Walking through the Gothic Quarter feels like stepping back in time, with its narrow streets and historic buildings, while areas like Barceloneta show off the city’s modern, beachside energy. Barcelona feels like it blends the past and present seamlessly, which makes exploring every neighborhood so interesting. I joined this global business program because I wanted to challenge myself by stepping out of my comfort zone and learning how business works in a completely different culture. I hope to gain a better understanding of how European markets function, especially in Spain, and see firsthand how cultural values influence business practices. I also want to grow personally by adapting to a new way of living, building connections with people from different backgrounds, and becoming more independent in an unfamiliar place. One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed between Spanish and American culture is the pace of life. People here seem to take their time and really enjoy the moment. Meals are longer and more social, with dinner often starting much later than I’m used to, and many businesses close in the afternoon for siesta. At first, this felt unusual, but now I can see how it reflects a strong focus on balance and quality of life. Overall, I’m excited to keep exploring, learning, and making the most of this experience abroad. I can already tell this program will leave a lasting impact on both my personal growth and how I understand the world.
