1. What has been the most rewarding experience, so far, of your France Study Abroad?
The most rewarding experience of my Study Abroad experience has been meeting students in the business school we have class in. From the French students that speak English we have learned not only about fun things to do in the local area, but also how their experience has been in Strasbourg. With those who have been to America we have compared the differences and yet striking similarities between our two countries.
2. What are 3 things have you have noticed about the way business is done in France?
First off, I have noticed that business in France is much more self-centered. In most commercial places you enter, get what you need, and leave. There seems to be a lot less time socializing and gazing than there is in America. They also have built in tax for goods. The price you see is what you pay, without any extra fees added to your bill. Finally, business is much more local. There are not many chains, especially restaurants, in the city of Strasbourg.
3. What has been the biggest surprise you have had so far in France. Was there something that you thought you knew, that is completely different than what you expected?
The biggest surprise I have had in France is the amount of public transport. The city is walkable, bikeable, and has trams and buses around. I can get around almost anywhere without driving, and all I need is a pass to get the rest of the places by vehicle. I also did not think much of the French landscape, but during time in the city, and trips to both the European Parliament and a castle near Strasbourg I have discovered how beautiful the architecture and countryside are.
