I have loved my time at 3 BYT Consorcio in Madrid so far. 3 BYT is a startup that buys and sells recycled plastics to promote sustainability. I have focused my work on 3 BYT’s expansion into new countries, including the United States, Malaysia, Turkey, India and Vietnam. This work has been slightly challenging as I have been working to find all of the specific regulations that 3 BYT must follow in each country regarding recycled plastics and find the permits that 3 BYT may need. Additionally, I have looked into the business opportunities in each country, especially for startups and foreign companies. In the United States, I have done additional research regarding potential market competitors and into the state regulations for potential states where 3 BYT would like to operate. Furthermore, I have looked into the types of plastics that each country imports and exports, as well as the amount of each to see what 3 BYT should prioritize in regard to types of recycled plastics. This research also allows me to find the market value of each type of recycled plastic and rank each plastic regarding to popularity in each country. I also have looked into potential taxes on these plastics as they are imported and exported, as they differ depending on the country. 3 BYT has also allowed me practice my Spanish in the workplace. While challenging at times, I feel a lot more confident in my Spanish than when I arrived in Madrid. Overall, I have loved my time at 3 BYT and look forward to the rest of my internship!
