I am sure most will think this a cliché, but this experience has truly been life-changing. My Spanish has gotten better than I could’ve imagined, and I made it a focus point over my time here. I’ve also met people from across the Globe. UC3M has a very large international student program bringing in people from France, Portugal, Morocco, and all over the United States. Life here has helped me slow down and enjoy the little things that a city has to offer. It’s nice to be able to walk everywhere and not have to worry about how the traffic is going to be. Most young people in Spain speak at least 2 languages fluently; something you don’t often see in the States. My time here has allowed me to develop an international perspective on different topics of discussion and be able to have these conversations with people who have different views from mine. In terms of my future, this experience has made me want to pursue a company that has international offices to possibly work overseas for a year or maybe longer. I really could not recommend a semester abroad in Madrid more. As I prepare to leave Madrid, I’m filled with a mix of gratitude and nostalgia. This city has become more than just a temporary home—it’s been a place of growth, connection, and discovery. I’ve learned how to navigate unfamiliar situations with confidence, how to communicate across cultures, and how to embrace the beauty of everyday life. The friendships I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me long after I return to Texas. Studying abroad isn’t just an academic experience—it’s a personal transformation, and I’m incredibly thankful for every moment that shaped it.
