Looking back after getting back home from my month study abroad in France its hard to forget the incredible experience my friends and I shared in Switzerland by sleeping in a barn in a small town 30 minutes outside of Interlaken. At first it started off as a joke of what if we slept in a barn but after our first Airbnb fell through and everywhere else around Interlaken was out of our price range we actually committed to staying in the barn. Some of us were nervous but we were all excited about what was to come and the stories we would be able to tell about sleeping in a barn. When we got there we were immediately ecstatic that we went through with it as the family that owned the barn was so welcoming to us and they truly just loved what they do. They own a ranch and raise cows that wander around in the mountains during the day and bring them back at night. There were even cows in the front yard that you could pet, and the view was truly spectacular. We stayed upstairs in the barn and the best way to describe it was we slept in a chicken coop with sleeping bags. In the morning we were woken up to the loud sound of cow bells bright and early when they started walking the cows to the mountains and to be honest I didn’t sleep the best, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t worth it. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience and it will be a story I can tell for years going forward.
