It’s been two weeks since I started interning abroad in Spain, and my first impressions of both the country and my company have been overwhelmingly positive. I’m loving the energy, excitement, and the one-of-a-kind experiences Barcelona has to offer, and my company reflects a lot of that same spirit.
Before coming here, I’d heard that European work culture is more about “working to live” than “living to work.” While that’s partly true, there’s also a strong sense of drive and entrepreneurial energy, both in the city and within my company, that’s been incredibly inspiring. Spaniards know how to have fun, but they’re also passionate and deeply committed to their ideas and projects.
I’m interning with a small gastronomy consulting firm, which means I’ve had the chance to be super creative and take the lead on ideas from concept to execution. What has stood out is how supportive my company is of learning through travel; they genuinely believe the insights and inspiration that come from exploring new places make us better consultants. They’ve even given me time to take trips around Spain, and I’m so grateful for that balance between work and exploration.
It’s still early days, but I’ve already felt so welcomed and energized by the work—and especially by the people. I’m excited to keep learning and growing through this journey.
