When I chose the study abroad program in Italy, I was looking for a way to make friends while also exploring a new area. I was looking for a simple summer trip, but I did not expect to have so many emotions involved in this trip so far. It has been only 14 days since my arrival, but I feel like I have been through so many experiences already. First off, I have already learned valuable lessons in time management. I am usually a very slow learner, so I have learned how to quickly adapt in order to keep up with studies as well as exploring the city of Florence as much as I can. I have had to set boundaries with obligations I am expected to complete at home through other organizations in order to fully appreciate my time here. The city so far has surprised me with a few differences, but also similarities. Italians are very passionate about what they are interested in, and they will let you know. The business conducted in Italy is somewhat similar to that of the United States in that people value personal relationships, but different in that they do not get into business conversations quickly, but slowly and with intent. I have taken into account that many of the workers in Florence speak fairly fluent English, which is to be expected in a tourist area, but I wonder if they ever are angry that they feel they have to learn our language, instead of vice versa. From Italy business abroad, I hope to expand my appreciation for other cultures. I hope to retain well-versed knowledge of the business experience here, especially in case I come back here in the future for business-related purposes. I hope to make lifelong friends who share the same values as me, and I hope to make memories that will last a lifetime and provide many stories.
