When I first went to Athens I did not expect there to be a lot of struggling business due to the amount of tourist money that went into it. Then, when I spoke with my small business owner, I saw that while there is a lot of money in the city, there is also a ton of competition. Not having the proper business practices can be fatal in such a competitive market. When I first met my client, I thought it was an interesting business, but also a bit complex due to her owning two businesses and selling Ethiopian artifacts on the side. When first approaching the situation we prioritized which business out of her coffee shop and mini market needed help. My group had chosen the coffee shop as the main priority since it lacked a lot of common business marketing strategies such as business cards, a logo, a sign, and even a name. We came up with the name of the business and called it a mesob named after Ethiopian furniture used to make coffee and food. We then came up with menus that outlined what she sold her drinks for along with food. The group then decided to help her promote her other business while in the coffee shop so we made flyers to show her inventory in her basement. Finally, we helped her get on to Google Maps so people can find her business. She had felt so happy and grateful for what we had done and it told us she wished she had children to be able to help with simple stuff like that. This helped me understand that even just a small amount of business knowledge can go a long way in helping someone whose business has a huge amount of potential to grow..
