One of the first things I noticed and appreciated during this global business program in Strasbourg, France, is the rich historical presence woven into everyday life. Everywhere you turn, you’re surrounded by centuries-old architecture, a contrast to what I’m used to in the U.S. From charming apartments and cozy restaurants to the breathtaking Notre Dame Cathedral, the buildings here offer a glimpse into the city’s significance in French history. What makes this experience especially unique is the ability to study the city’s past in the classroom and then immediately step outside to witness it firsthand. This immersive learning environment has been one of the most memorable aspects of the trip so far and is a clear distinction between France and the U.S. that has shaped my first impression of the country in a very positive way.
As someone who’s always been curious about the world, I came into this program hoping to gain knowledge, new experiences, and a broader worldview—and I can confidently say I’ve already made meaningful progress toward these goals. I’m grateful for the chance to engage with France in such a free and authentic way. One of the most rewarding moments so far came during a casual night out at a local restaurant, where a few friends and I found ourselves in a conversation with a group of travelers from the United Kingdom in their 60s. We swapped stories about our home countries, laughed over cultural quirks, and shared perspectives on life from different corners of the world.
As they were leaving, one of the men thanked us for the conversation and told us how refreshing it was to see young Americans traveling with purpose. He expressed his admiration for our curiosity and encouraged us to never stop experiencing the world. His words—spoken with sincerity and the wisdom of experience—were incredibly meaningful. They affirmed exactly why I chose to be part of this program.
So far, this journey has already taught me invaluable lessons—both academically and personally—and I’m excited for everything else ahead.
