Wrapping up my last day in Madrid, it still feels like I just got here a week ago. What I’ll miss most—without a doubt—are the 1 euro loaves of bread I could grab from any corner store on my walk home from school.
Studying abroad has completely changed my perspective on how differently you can live if you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone. At first, I thought the whole experience would feel like one long vacation, or that I’d never really feel like I lived here. But I was wrong. Within a month, I settled into a routine and started to feel like Madrid could be home—somewhere I could actually live for a few years.
I ended up knowing this city better than the one I grew up in. The experience taught me how to make friends from all kinds of backgrounds, and opened my eyes to cultural norms and ways of living I’d never encountered before.
