Arriving in London for the Europe Marketing Study Abroad Program has already been such an eye-opening experience. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I was struck by how many little things felt different yet exciting. One of the first things I noticed was the food. While there are plenty of familiar options, the portions, ingredients, and even meal times are a bit different from what I’m used to back home in Texas. I’m definitely looking forward to trying new dishes and stepping out of my comfort zone.
Another big adjustment has been the transportation system. The London Underground, or “the Tube,” is incredibly efficient, but also much more fast-paced than what I’m used to. People move with purpose, and there’s a whole etiquette to riding public transport that I’m still getting used to. Crossing the street has also taken some practice. I’ve had to remind myself to look right first!
One of the most surprising differences so far has been the bathrooms. I expected them to look and function the same as they do in the U.S., but even small things like how the toilets flush or the design of public restrooms have made me realize how much I take for granted back home.
Through this program, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how marketing practices differ across countries, especially within European business culture. I’m eager to learn more about the values, traditions, and consumer behaviors that influence marketing strategies here in the UK. On a personal level, I want to soak up everything I can from this experience. I want to see the world, grow more independent, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
This is just the beginning, but I can already tell that studying abroad is going to challenge and change me in the best way possible.
