Blog Post 2 – Paige Duke

2025, Austria, Europe Marketing, Faculty-led and Field Trip Programs, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland / June 9, 2025 by Mays Abroad

Looking back on my study abroad trip, I can honestly say it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to travel, learn, and grow alongside an amazing group of people.
Throughout the trip, we visited several different countries, and each one had something unique to offer. Whether we were walking through the streets of Paris, exploring castles in Germany, or enjoying the mountains in Switzerland, every day brought something new. I learned so much about international business and marketing, but also about how different cultures live and interact. That kind of learning sticks with you in a way that a classroom never could.

One of the biggest cultural differences I noticed was how people abroad seem to live at a slower, more intentional pace. Meals are a time to relax and enjoy, not just something to check off your to-do list. I had to get used to the idea that waiters wouldn’t bring the check unless you asked for it. It felt strange at first, but by the end of the trip, I really appreciated how it encouraged us to slow down and enjoy the moment.

I was also surprised by how common it was to see sustainability built into daily life. From public transportation to reusable grocery bags to limited water use in restaurants, it made me think more about my own habits and how I can be more mindful back home.

Beyond all the learning, this trip helped me grow personally too. I’ve become more independent, more confident, and more open-minded. I’ve learned how to adapt, navigate unfamiliar places, and communicate across cultures. I know those skills will stick with me wherever I go next.

I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity and the support that helped make it happen. This experience has left a lasting impact on me, and I’ll carry these memories and lessons with me for the rest of my life.
