Studying abroad has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve met incredible people, explored beautiful cities, and gained a deeper understanding of both myself and the world around me.
I had the opportunity to take Business Law and International Business while abroad, which gave me a deeper look at U.S. law and the workings of the European Union. Learning about these topics while living in Strasbourg, a city full of history and international influence, really brought everything to life in a way that felt meaningful and relevant.
One of the most important things I’ve learned is the value of cultural intelligence in both business and everyday life. Understanding local customs, communication styles, and social norms is essential, not just for professional success, but also for building meaningful relationships. My time abroad taught me how to observe, listen, and adapt in order to engage thoughtfully and respectfully in unfamiliar environments.
Living in Strasbourg allowed me to feel truly immersed in the local culture, from navigating the tram system to picking up a pain au chocolat in the mornings. Over time, I transitioned from feeling like a visitor to feeling like part of the community. By the end of the trip, we could confidently navigate train stations and even plan spontaneous weekend trips across borders.
My first impressions barely scratched the surface of what this experience had to offer. Now, I understand how powerful it is to experience life through another culture, and how much it can reshape your perspective.
A favorite memory of mine was playing 42, a domino game, on the train with Professor Schwartz, Alex, and Grant. It was such a simple moment, but it was filled with laughter, and it reminded me how much joy can be found in unexpected places.
More than anything, it’s the people who made this experience unforgettable. I’ve formed lifelong friendships, created amazing memories, and grown tremendously in independence and awareness. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity, a chapter I’ll carry with me forever, full of learning, laughter, and growth.
Au revoir Strasbourg!
