As a member of the Global Business Brigades education abroad program, our main task while abroad was to work with an entrepreneur and provide business consulting services to them. My client was Siddik who is wanting to open a hair salon in Athens, Greece in the future. Me and my team were tasked with helping Siddik come up with a viable business plan that would allow Siddik to follow his dreams.
As a team, we delivered a logo and business cards in order to help him expand his network. We also helped him build a resume to apply for internships. For his future business, we made him a budget, profit/loss tracking, and a client tracker. We also explained to him some basic business principles that will help him establish his business when he is ready.
This project was especially impactful to me as our client was actually younger than we were. Seeing the drive and ambition he carries at such a young age was inspiring. In addition, getting to hear about his daily life and schedule showed me similarities between Texas A&M and students in different areas. I am so grateful for the opportunity to gain the perspective of all the things that someone can go through within just 18 years of life. This has made me even more grateful for the life I live in Texas and the education I am able to get at Texas A&M University.
I highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to truly get to know the culture of the country you are visiting because you have the extraordinary opportunity to get to know residents of that country! This experience allows you to see some of the authentic struggles that people in other countries face. It also forces you to form connections with people with backgrounds vastly different from your own which is great experience to gain so early on.
