To start off with a major difference had to have been the jet lag and how much it truly affects your body when having an overnight flight you forget all the little routines you do When going to Greek restaurants the biggest difference is how many appetizers they offer before an actual meal these appetizers include: red pepper dip, feta cheese and so much more. When comparing this to America you realize how small portions we have for appetizers but where we lack in appetizers we make up in the main course as many Greek cuisine main dishes are not wildly fulfilling. Another difference is the public transportation system in Greece and how much more advanced it is compared to the US. Athens has a robust metro system that runs 24 hours allowing a lot of residents not to need to purchase a license. Another huge cultural shock is seeing all the graffiti in Greece and how some citizens have come to embrace it even hiring their artists to paint their walls and these artists have a sort of back-and-forth dynamic with the graffiti artist. For example, if an artist painted a dog someone might paint over it at night then the artist would come back and paint over the graffiti. One thing I hope to gain on this trip is an understanding of how Greece operates in the business sense and on the global political scale. To elaborate further, I want to see how a business operates in Greece when compared to a US corporation and if there are any differences between the two. I would also like to explore Greece’s complicated political struggles in recent times with bankruptcy and the refugee crisis in 2015 while seeing the role it plays in the EU when it comes to those issues.
