Studying here at Bocconi University in Milan has been an eye-opening experience from day one. First and foremost, compared to Texas A&M, the academic culture here is noticeably more independent and hands-off. Professors expect students to take charge of their learning, with less in-class guidance and more emphasis on self-study and personal responsibility. While it was an adjustment at first, I’ve come to appreciate how this structure encourages maturity and self-discipline.
Beyond academics, the cultural immersion has been equally transformative. Living in Milan—a city steeped in history, fashion, and innovation—has exposed me to a rhythm of life that’s both fast-paced and deeply rooted in tradition. From grabbing espresso at local cafés to navigating the city’s efficient public transport, every day presents a new opportunity to engage with Italian culture. I’ve found myself becoming more adaptable and open-minded, learning to appreciate different perspectives and ways of life that contrast with my experiences back in Texas.
Socially, Bocconi fosters a dynamic international community that’s both intellectually stimulating and personally enriching. I’ve met students from all over the world, each bringing unique insights and backgrounds to the table. Group projects and campus events often turn into cross-cultural exchanges, where I’ve learned just as much from my peers as from my coursework. This global environment has sharpened my communication skills and broadened my worldview, making me more confident in navigating diverse professional and personal settings.
