Arriving in London, England for the global business program has already proven to be an exciting and enriching experience. As one of the world’s leading financial and cultural capitals, London offers a dynamic backdrop for studying international business. The city’s blend of history and modernity is immediately striking—from the centuries-old architecture and royal landmarks to the fast-paced, tech-driven business hubs. This setting makes it an ideal environment to explore how global business operates in a real-world context.
Through our company visits and networking opportunities, the program seems well-equipped to provide both theoretical knowledge and insights into the details of conducting business across borders. I’m especially looking forward to learning more about European economic systems and the role of multinational corporations headquartered in London.
One of the most noticeable differences between the UK and the U.S. is the pace and tone of professional communication. British business culture tends to be more formal and understated, placing great emphasis on politeness, hierarchy, and indirect communication. In contrast, American business environments are often more informal, direct, and fast-paced. Additionally, public transportation in London is much more efficient and widely used than in many U.S. cities, fostering a more sustainable and punctual lifestyle. Using the tube was practical and efficient. Driving on the opposite side of the road was quite odd though and is taking a while to get used to.
From this global experience, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how businesses operate in a globalized environment, and to develop cultural competence that will help me collaborate effectively with international partners in the future. I also want to broaden my perspective on problem-solving by learning how different markets address challenges and innovation. Overall, I believe this program will play a key role in preparing me for a future career in international business. I am grateful for this opportunity to see the world in such a new way. Finding the common practices and appreciating the differences between businesses internationally has been quite insightful.
