So far on the Marketing Europe trip we have been to London, and we just arrived at Paris. We were in London for the last five days and I absolutely loved it. I feel like I have learned a lot already both academically and on a worldly view. The program in my opinion is set up so well. I think it’s so special that we get to visit so many different places in one month and emerge ourselves in so many cultures. I think it is really cool to stay in one place the whole time, but the marketing study abroad offers something that many others don’t. We get to see not only the cultural differences of our country but also the differences between the seven countries we visit. London so far has been so beautiful. The city is filled with so much rich history that it makes it so unique. It is so interesting to hear the traditional ways they run their government. When we toured parliament, we heard all about this and my favorite room was the House of Lords. The differences between US culture and European culture so far have had some notable differences. The first one I can think of is public transportation. We took the tube to London everywhere we went. While this is also a thing in New York City most of the US population relies more heavily on cars rather than public transportation systems like this. Another difference is their government system. They still have a multi-party system known as a constitutional monarchy. This is very different from the US and makes the people also follow very traditional practices such as the changing of the guards. The last main cultural difference is afternoon tea. This is a time at 3pm that most people decide to drink hot tea and relax in the day. This is a time to enjoy yourself and keep the day going. I have loved the experience so far and I can’t wait for all the more we will see!
