Starting the Global Business Program in London has already been an incredible experience. From the moment I arrived, I could tell this city had a different energy than what I’m used to in the U.S. The pace of life feels faster yet more in order, and the public transportation system is so well-connected that driving feels unnecessary. People seem more reserved in public. There’s less small talk, and the people are more quiet. Also there’s definitely less water drinking compared to what I’m used to back home. It’s been interesting adjusting to these differences, but they’ve already made me more aware of how culture shapes behavior.
What excites me most about this program is the opportunity to learn how business works across different countries, starting with London and then continuing on to Paris and, eventually, Switzerland, which I’m especially looking forward to. Seeing how companies adapt their strategies to local customs and markets is something I’ve studied in class, but experiencing it firsthand is completely different. I’m eager to learn more about how different companies market, communicate, lead their employees, and what role cultural norms play in marketing decisions.
Outside of academics, I hope to become more adaptable, confident, and culturally aware. Being in a new place brings new challenges which make you to think differently and step outside your comfort zone. I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to make the most of this experience! I’m looking forward to see how this experience will shape my perspective going forward.
