After observing business in London the past week, I have observed a lot of cultural differences and similarities between the United States and England. We visited London, and we were able to observe how a global branding agency, Design Bridge and Partners, does their business. We learned about their different campaigns and customs in the office. I really admired how creative this brand one, and how they encouraged collaboration throughout everyone through the office. I noticed that people tend to live a simpler lifestyle than people in the United States, with fewer worries and daily pressures. We also got to see how the Chelsea football club was ran, toured the facilities, and how they club operates behind the scenes. I found it very interesting learning about the history of how the club came to be. Through years and years of ups and downs this club has been able to consistently remain a top competitor. One thing, though it is small, is the availability of food I have noticed. On every corner, there is a grab and go market which helps contribute to the mobile lifestyle that Europeans live. Adding on to that, one of the biggest observations I have is that their lifestyle is extremely mobile. People are always on the go, whether that be walking, biking, or on the trains, people really try to stay moving and outside. Compared to the United States, the lifestyle is way more mobile. The US has a strict 9-5 schedule which makes it hard to get exercise in the day to day. Lastly, we visited Lloyd’s of London, which is the biggest insurance market in the world. Companies long to work in this building, because of its great credibility that it’s established. Lloyds of London has a long history similar to companies in the United States. I am so excited to see what else I’m going to learn throughout my next month abroad, and I’m so grateful for all the knowledge I have gained as far.
