As my time in Athens, Greece came to an end, I was filled with a bittersweet sense of gratitude and nostalgia. Leaving behind the community I had grown within my peers and with my client was not easy. Through my participation in the Global Business Brigades and this incredible course, I was given a rare and rewarding opportunity to make a real impact.
In an earlier blog post, I shared my first impressions of Athens and touched on its unmatched historical richness. It was interesting seeing my perspective on the local graffiti change into expressions of art. But it wasn’t until my final week that I fully understood what makes the city truly special. Athens has a unique energy—a deep connection to its past, yet a vibrant space for creativity and self-expression. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or someone inspired by street art and modern culture, Athens offers something meaningful for everyone. It’s a city that embraces diversity in thought and experience.
One of the most memorable parts of my journey was working with my group and assigned client. At just 18 years old, he impressed us all with his motivation and entrepreneurial spirit. He had a clear goal: to attend barber school and eventually open his own salon. What struck me most was how much I learned simply by listening to his story. It reminded me that genuine engagement and open communication can reveal perspectives we might otherwise overlook.
Through collaboration with my team, we developed deliverables to support his vision. These included potential logo designs, basic financial statement templates in Excel, and foundational marketing tools he could use as he grows his business. The experience was not only inspiring, but also incredibly fulfilling, knowing our work could play a small role in helping him pursue his dreams and making my mark on the Athens community.
Overall, my time in Greece was deeply meaningful—both personally and professionally. I leave with new insights, lasting memories, and a profound appreciation for the people and culture of Athens.
