When I first stepped foot in London, I was pleasantly surprised. I expected rough, rainy conditions and lots of traffic. Only the traffic part was true. So far, it has been nothing but sunshine and a light breeze. Even our guides for our bike tours and company visits have been joking that we brought the sunshine from Texas. However, like any big city, I felt there was a lot of congestion in the form of people and traffic in London. With this, there is so much diversity to
the city from the people to the food. I noticed on the subways (they call it “The Tube”), different languages are always being spoken around you. Even though English is the official language, there are so many different people from different cultures who call London home. To add, London seems to be home to a large number of fusion restaurants. What I mean by this is that they combine different types of food, such as Japanese and Italian, and create new plates from
both food genres.
There were a couple of main differences between London and Aggieland, mainly the fact they drive on the opposite side of the road and the fashion. I feel like there is a significant emphasis placed on dressing up for daily activities in London. In Aggieland, you’ll see a lot of athleisure wear in daily outfits, such as running errands. This wear isn’t very common in London. I saw many students dressed up in linen clothes or wearing their school’s uniform. This
sense of fashion gives London a fancier feel, and I love it!
With this trip so far, I’ve already been able to meet so many great Aggies (there are 80 on our trip) that I wouldn’t have otherwise met. I did this while learning about so many significant buildings in London, including Westminster Abbey, Parliament, and Big Bend. I can’t wait to make more exciting memories on our next stop: Paris!
