Visiting Europe has always been at the very top of my bucket list. I still can’t quite believe I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to spend an entire month exploring another continent alongside 79 fellow students. Being selected as one of only 80 students from countless applications across campus truly feels like a blessing and a dream come true. From the moment the program began with our monthly meetings, I knew this experience would leave an everlasting impact on me. Both the faculty and my fellow students are truly exceptional, making this journey even more special. Professor Stephen W. McDaniel, better known as Dr. Mac, has been an incredible mentor and the greatest support throughout this entire process. Our first stop in Europe was in Oxford on May 8, 2025. From touring their entire campus to going into depth about their culture and history it just left me amazed. It is nothing like it is in the United States other than some of them being able to speak English. On the same day after completing our first stop, we headed to London. London was amazing. London taught me so much from their people to their culture and history as well. The environment was very different, I would like to describe it as historic. That is what really impressed me because anywhere you went there was always an important piece of history. One of the most significant cultural differences I’ve noticed in the UK is the slower, more deliberate pace at which people live their daily lives. It seems that people here genuinely value taking their time, carefully savoring each moment and experience rather than rushing through tasks. There’s a strong emphasis on appreciating life’s simple pleasures and making each second count. Additionally, politeness, courtesy, and good manners are deeply ingrained in British culture and are consistently reflected in everyday interactions, demonstrating just how seriously they take social etiquette. From this global experience, I hope to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures and perspectives, expanding my worldview beyond what I’ve known back home. I’m eager to develop greater adaptability, improve my communication skills in diverse settings, and build meaningful connections that could last a lifetime. Ultimately, I believe this experience will shape me into a more globally aware and culturally sensitive individual, enhancing both my personal growth and professional opportunities.
