Over Spring Break, I had the opportunity to visit a local business in Lima, Peru. I went with a large group within my organization, and we all took away something different, which is amazing. The business is called Velover Coffee and Casa Girasoles Coffee, which is a small coffee shop that was inside of a church. They have another coffee shop that is not at the church which is more defined. The church location was tricky for pricing because the owners need to charge enough to outweigh the costs of business, but they are also trying to balance having a profit and making sure the people (who come from different economic backgrounds), can all get a coffee if they wish. Seeing their heart behind this is what I took away from the trip because they are genuine people who are looking after their community while also trying to be successful, but they prioritize their community more. This aligns with the overall culture of Peru as we were overwhelmed and shocked by everyone’s hospitality and giving hearts. We all came back with full heart because even though people might be going through the worst situations, they still wanted to give and help us, which is truly so inspiring. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity!
