Over spring break I was given the opportunity to go to Peru with some of the other people in my organization. While we were in Peru we visited a coffee shop that was inside a church. It was really cool to hear about how their shop has grown and changed locations over the years. One of the biggest hardships that they have faced was trying to decide how to price their coffee. They confliction arose when they realized that they needed to make enough money to support themselves and the shop but also charge fair priced to the customers so that they will be able to afford the coffee.
We also went to the sand dunes in a city called Ica. It was a thrilling experience to rise in dune buggies and slide down the dunes on sand boards. At the end of the ride we got to watch the sunset on the dunes and it was an incredible sight to see.
The main reason that we were in Peru was for a mission trip. We were helping out at a women’s and children refuge for women that had escaped domestic violence. Some of the things that we did there were painting some bedrooms and playing with the children. Some of the bilingual people that went on the trip were able to talk to the mothers and hear a little bit of their stories. We also traveled about an hour south and were able to distribute water to people from a big water truck because their water supply had been damaged by a landslide.
Overall, I had a great trip. It was a very eye opening experience for me and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to go and see a part of the world that I had never been to before. The lord moves in so many ways and it was awesome to get to watch and work alongside so many likeminded individuals.
