My initial impressions of Melbourne and the global business program have been nothing short of amazing. Melbourne is a vibrant city that seamlessly combines modern innovation with cultural richness. As an accounting major pursuing my master’s in entrepreneurial leadership, this experience has been an incredible opportunity to broaden my perspective, both culturally and professionally.
One of the first highlights of our time here was the visit to the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. The natural beauty was breathtaking and vastly different from anything I’ve seen in the U.S. Additionally, we had the chance to listen to inspiring local business leaders, who shared insights into building resilient and innovative enterprises. Their stories resonated with me and gave me valuable lessons to apply to my own entrepreneurial goals.
Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Melbourne was an unforgettable cultural experience. The city came alive with energy, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere that perfectly introduced us to Australian culture. During this first week, I’ve also had the chance to interact with locals through their restaurants and cafes, observing their emphasis on community, laid-back hospitality, and fantastic coffee culture. Witnessing a cricket game was another memorable experience—it allowed me to immerse myself in one of Australia’s most cherished pastimes, fostering a deeper connection to the culture.
I’ve also noticed key cultural differences between Australia and the U.S. Australians seem to prioritize a balanced lifestyle, blending work, family, and leisure. This contrasts with the often fast-paced, work-centric mindset common in the U.S., which I find refreshing and valuable.
So far, this global experience has been enlightening. I hope to further explore how Australian businesses emphasize sustainability, adaptability, and innovation as I grow personally and professionally in this program.
