This is my first time ever leaving the country, so while this may seem very ambitious to do (and I wouldn’t disagree with you), I’m learning so much! For starters, the food here is so so so good, and better yet, it’s almost all healthy! Norwegians have a very balanced diet and their taste buds are given a first class experience. Almost the entire population is very in shape as well, which can be attributed to many things: the amount of outdoor sports enjoyed here (more than just skiing), the fervent gym culture, and popular public transport use. Speaking of public transport, it’s very different here than America. Almost everyone takes a train, tram, or bus to get everywhere they want to go, and while cars aren’t super uncommon, citizens of Oslo are taxed for driving them. Everyone here is fluent in both Norwegian and English (great for me), and the Norwegians I’ve managed to talk to have all been very kind. I am beginning to understand why Norway consistently ranks high in both quality of life and “happiness.” One more thing: the architecture is very beautiful! There are so many colors all around that one’s eye can delight in, although it is slightly better to view them during the 6 hours of daylight we have right now.
I’m blessed to be here and am looking forward to becoming more involved here!
