As I reflect on my time in Costa Rica, I can honestly say this experience has completely changed how I think about business and life. Living with a host family was one of the most meaningful parts of this experience. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel like I was part of the family. Coming here, I didn’t fully understand how much culture shapes the way people approach work, relationships, and everyday decisions. Now, after two weeks of learning and living in this amazing country, I feel like I have a much broader perspective.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how important relationships are in conducting business here. In Costa Rica, building trust and genuine connections comes before anything else. Meetings aren’t just about getting to the point and closing a deal like they often are in the U.S. Instead, there’s a focus on creating personal connections, which makes business feel more human. I’ve realized how much value this adds and how it can lead to stronger partnerships in the long run.
My initial impressions of Costa Rica being a laid-back, eco-friendly country were pretty spot on, but I didn’t fully grasp how deeply these values influence everything. Sustainability isn’t just a trend here; it’s a way of life. Companies prioritize renewable energy and reducing their environmental impact in ways I’ve rarely seen in the U.S.
This experience has also changed how I view work-life balance. Seeing how people here prioritize family, community, and enjoying life has been eye-opening. There’s a sense of balance that feels healthier and more sustainable than the “grind” mentality I’m used to. I really enjoyed
Overall, my time in Costa Rica has taught me to slow down, value connections, and think differently about success. I hope to carry these lessons with me and apply them not just in my career but also in how I approach life.
