Bonjour!! I just finished my first 2 weeks of classes in Strasbourg and it’s been amazing! I’ve met so many people from all across the world and really gotten a feel for the French culture.
Even after studying French for a few years in high school, moving here was quite the culture shock! I sadly don’t know much French past the basic greetings and exchanges with a cashier or waiter, so it can get overwhelming sometimes. Thankfully resources like google translate make living abroad so much easier. The other big part is the slower pace of life. I’m significantly less busy than I am back in College Station but I’ve been taking advantage of all my
free time at parks or cafes.
There’s an international student organization that hosts an event almost every day and lots of opportunities to meet other international students in your classes. Classes here are so different! Each lecture
is about 3 hours long and it only occurs once a week. But I barely have any homework, just a few readings and preparing for upcoming presentations.
Strasbourg is so beautiful in the fall, I’ve been very thankful for all the sunny weather so far. The city is a mix of French and German influence so the city center, or Grand Île, is so interesting to walk through. I’m excited to get more familiar with the city as the semester goes on.
So far it’s been a little challenging but mostly exciting and new! And I’m really looking forward to the Christmas Markets!
