Some might think that spending two months working in another country is a big decision and one too daunting to make, but I chose to have this experience and to make the most of my time in Ireland. Working for Athletics Ireland has been a fantastic experience and I learned a lot about the business, and I can’t imagine it’s much different than the US. I worked in the finance department and for the most part I was ensuring that the money coming in to the company and the money going out was all accounted for. Just like business in the US, everything has its place and all sides need to be equal. I didn’t really find many differences compared to the US, but one thing that did take a while for me to get used to was that they write their dates in a day month year format instead of the month day year format that America uses. It threw me off guard for a little while, but once I got the hang of it, it wasn’t that big of a deal. I think it will be just as difficult for me to switch back once I’m back in America again. One of my favorite things about working for Athletics Ireland were my coworkers. They were all so nice and friendly and often gave me suggestions for things to see and places to visit in Ireland. My boss, especially, always recommended places for me to go hiking such as Howth and Poolbeg. This really has been a great experience and one that I’m not likely to forget anytime soon.
