As an Aggie who has participated in a CIBS study abroad program in Barcelona, I can assure you that the experience is unlike anything you’ve had before. Forget the typical classrooms you’re used to, abroad you’ll be commuting on the metro, passing through narrow streets, and admiring stunning architecture on your way to class. We didn’t just sit in lectures; we got out into the city for field visits that let us see how global business really works in a vibrant place like Barcelona. One of the trip’s highlights was a day hike to Montserrat, where we took in the incredible views from the unique mountains and learned more about Spain’s rich history. We also got a taste of the local culture with a hands-on cooking class, learning to make traditional dishes like paella, patatas bravas, and croquettes. It wasn’t just about studying business; it was about truly experiencing Barcelona in ways you can’t get from a textbook.
But the adventure didn’t stop with classes. I spent my free time sipping coffee at cozy cafés, practicing my Spanish as I ordered, and wandering through the Gothic Quarter to do some shopping. Weekends were for exploring Gaudí’s masterpieces like the breathtaking Sagrada Família or taking spontaneous trips to nearby towns with friends I made along the way. One of my favorite trips was to the beautiful beach of Blanes in Costa Brava, where we discovered the town’s natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and perfect spots for cliff jumping. Whether it was sharing tapas with my study group or stumbling upon a hidden gem of a restaurant, every meal was unforgettable. I even went back to the restaurant where we had our first group dinner just to have their duck paella again—it was that good!
This whole experience was about more than just what I saw or did; it was about how much I grew. Studying abroad in Barcelona pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. I came back to College Station with a deeper understanding of the world, a new level of independence, and friendships that span continents. It wasn’t just a trip, it was a journey that shaped who I am and how I see the world.
